Communication Officer (CO) [Female Position]

Based in Islamabad, the Alternate Development Services Pvt. Ltd (ADS) is a research and capacity development firm. It is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). ADS possess elaborate experience of policy review and project implementation in the areas of alternativeand renewable energy transition, industrial decarbonization, and addresses the effects of global warming, climate change, and environmental conservation on society, economy, businesses, and people’s livelihood in general.

ADS envisions generating an enabling environment for informed policy positions, nature-friendly and people-centered development, as well as energy consumption and transition. It is rapidly emerging as a known entity striving to persuade, facilitate, and monitor Pakistan’s corporate sector in transitioning from fossil-powered energy to renewable and sustainable sources of energy, such as wind, solar, bio, and other green, clean, and climate-positive sources of energy. ADS believes that employing alternative sources of energy not only helps minimize global warming and arrest greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) but also helps in sustainable business growth and profitability as well.

The Alternate and Renewable Energy Campaign (AREC-Pakistan) is ADS’s ensuing campaign for transforming the corporate sectors’ sources of energy towards clean and green ones. ADS strives toencourage the corporate sector (specifically food and beverage corporate entities, textiles, sports, and leather industry and respective supply chains) and MDBs to switch to Net-Zero by transforming their high-carbon-emitting and polluting sources of power to alternative, sustainable, greener, and cleaner sources of energy.

Duty Station: Islamabad, with occasional travel to Punjab, KP, Sindh, and Balochistan, depending on project requirements.

Role Purpose: ADS is seeking a Communication Officer (CO) who can support ADS’s climate and environmental themes and, importantly, lead day-to-day digital communications for ADS. The role is suited to a candidate who combines strong writing and journalistic research skills with strong graphic design, video editing, and social media management.

i). Graphics: Designing professional visual graphics (non-template based) (40%).

ii). Communication: Social media management, moderation, and organizational representation (30%).

iii). Research: Journalistic Research on Energy and Climate Change (30%).

Corresponding to the project requirements, ADS intends to assign the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

i). Support research and knowledge products on climate change, environment, industrial decarbonization, and clean energy transition (desk review, data collection, note-taking, synthesis, and drafting short briefs/sections).

ii). Assist in research methods and field work where required (surveys, FGDs/KIIs, observations, basic data cleaning).

iii). Manage ADS social media platforms (e.g., X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube), including a content calendar, posting schedules, community engagement, and inbox management.

iv). Draft engaging, audience-appropriate content (English and/or Urdu) for social media, newsletters, event promotions, and web updates, with emphasis on climate/environment/renewable energy/industrial decarbonization narratives and project visibility.

v). Design visual materials for events and digital channels, including posters, pamphlets, banners, standees, infographics, and presentation templates.

vi). Develop press releases, if and when required.

vii). Produce and edit short videos for campaigns and events (reels/shorts, interviews, field highlights), including captions/subtitles and platform-friendly exports.

viii). Track performance using analytics and prepare brief monthly learning notes/dashboards to improve content strategy.

ix). Support event documentation and other tasks assigned by the Chief Executive/ProgrammeManager.

x). Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

i). Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Media and Communication Studies, Journalism, Economics, or other relevant disciplines.

ii). 3-5 years of relevant experience in social and technical research and/or communications; candidates with print, digital, or broadcast journalism experience are strongly encouraged to apply, with demonstrated social media management and creative production (portfolio required).

iii). Strong writing and editing skills; ability to convert research content into clear, public-facing/social media messaging.

iv). Competence in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort working with basic data/visuals.

v). Willingness to travel for field activities when required.

Knowledge and Skills:

i). Understanding of climate change, environmental issues, and decarbonization narratives in Pakistan (policy awareness will be appreciated).

ii). Good command of social media platforms, trends, and audience engagement.

iii). Strong skills in professional graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or CorelDRAW (template-based platforms (Canva etc) alone are not sufficient).

iv). Working knowledge of video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Filmora or equivalent), including basic audio cleanup and captions.

v). Solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines; works well independently and in a team.
