Job Summary: The Dental Attendant is responsible for assisting the Dental Surgeon/Dental Technician in providing quality dental services. The role includes preparing patients, arranging instruments, maintaining cleanliness and sterilization of dental equipment, ensuring infection prevention practices, and supporting smooth functioning of the dental unit.

Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent Dental Attendant based at RHC Shagram, Upper-Chitral in Chitral Region. 

Key Responsibilities:

A. Assistance in Dental Procedures

  • Assist Dental Surgeon/Dental Technician during dental procedures such as extraction, scaling, filling, and minor dental surgeries.
  • Prepare dental instruments, materials, and equipment before procedures.
  • Support in patient positioning and ensuring patient comfort during treatment.
  • Assist in suctioning, instrument passing, and chair-side support during procedures.
  • Provide basic guidance to patients regarding oral hygiene and follow-up visits as directed.

B. Sterilization and Infection Prevention Control (IPC)

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments as per SOPs.
  • Maintain autoclave/sterilizer operation and ensure proper sterilization cycles.
  • Ensure safe disposal of sharps, contaminated waste, and dental materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness of dental chair, dental unit, and working area.
  • Follow standard precautions and ensure availability of PPE (gloves, masks, aprons).

C. Patient Handling and Support

  • Register and guide patients to the dental unit.
  • Assist in maintaining dental OPD queue and smooth patient flow.
  • Provide patient counseling on procedure preparation and post-treatment care instructions.
  • Ensure privacy and respectful behavior with all patients.

D. Dental Store and Stock Support

  • Maintain dental supplies including cotton, gauze, gloves, syringes, anesthetic materials, and disposable items.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory records and checking expiry dates.

Ensure proper storage of dental consumables and instruments

E. Documentation and Record Keeping

  • Assist in maintaining dental OPD register and daily service records.
  • Support preparation of monthly dental statistics and reports.
  • Maintain sterilization logs and equipment maintenance records.

F. Equipment Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Ensure dental unit equipment is cleaned and kept functional.
  • Report any damage or malfunction of dental chair, suction unit, compressor, or other equipment.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and safe handling of dental equipment.

G. Coordination and Other Duties

  • Coordinate with hospital departments for patient referrals and follow-up.
  • Assist during dental camps and outreach activities when required.
  • Support the dental team during emergency cases.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor related to dental services.

H. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Proper assistance provided during dental procedures.
  • Compliance with sterilization and infection prevention standards.
  • Cleanliness and readiness of dental unit and instruments.
  • Timely management of dental supplies and reporting of stock needs.
  • Proper maintenance of dental records and registers.
  • Patient satisfaction and smooth service delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric education 
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ Experience working in dental clinic/hospital will be an advantage
  • Diploma/Certificate in Dental Assistant course Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
  • Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Possesses strong integrity, intellectual humility and demonstrable expertise in navigating ambiguity and constant change.
