The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is a private, non-denominational, international development agency established in 1967. It seeks sustainable solutions to long-term problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy and ill-health with special emphasis on the needs of rural communities in mountainous and other resource poor regions, primarily in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Its main areas of focus are education, health, rural development, environment and strengthening civil society.
AKF(P) is seeking a high calibre expert consultant with relevant expertise for a short period to provide technical support to the Art of Parenting Initiative (API).
Background:
The API) is a national level collaborative partnership of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan (AKFP), Aga Khan University (AKU), National Institute of Psychology (NIP) Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and many other stakeholders.
The API comprises of two components:
- AGHOSH – targeting parenting for children aged 0–9 years
- PARVARISH – focusing on parenting for adolescents aged 9–19 years
These manuals are designed to empower parents with essential knowledge and practical skills, supporting the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of children and adolescents. The implementation model involves Government Provincial and District level stakeholders to train local resource persons and to facilitate them working with parents to promote positive parenting practices essential to children’s wellbeing.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will be Islamabad based reporting to Advisor, Art of Parenting with frequent travel within Pakistan to attend meetings with the stakeholders. The consultant will be responsible to provide support to existing API implementation strategy, training manuals development and enhancing the context specific plan for the engagement of stakeholders and effectively reaching out to the parents. Consultant will coordinate with the stakeholders organizing online and in person meetings to review progress of assignments, compliance with the timelines and providing suggestions for the improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
The consultant will work closely with the AKFP team providing technical support for the preparation of Art of parenting training and Education materials with specific roles to:
- Coordinate meetings with the AIOU, NIP and AKU to review and ensure quality of the training contents.
- Review and suggest revising contents according to local context, relevance and acceptability
- Review and revise sensitive content that may not be appropriate
- Prepare contents for the endorsement of National Steering Committee
Specifically, the consultant will be responsible for the detailed review, provide comments and ensure quality of work on the following documents.
- AIOU team urdu translation of Art of parenting manual
- AIOU team is preparing Facilitator guidebook which is concise and simplified version of the Aghosh and Parvarish manuals.
- AIOU is preparing urdu translation of Facilitator guidebook
- AIOU is preparing a series of lectures (video stories) for online virtual training of Field Resource Persons.
- AKU team is preparing short videos around the concepts of Aghosh and Parvarish modules for the capacity building of parents.
- AKU team is preparing parental guides with key messages of Aghosh and Parvarish for the education of parents.
- AKU team is preparing operational research design to document the impact of Art of parenting initiative
Time Period:
The national expert will be engaged for the period of 3 months December 15, 2025, to March 15 2026. According to the assigned task and timelines he will be responsible for the detailed review of drafts produced and providing suggestions for the improvements.
Qualification and Experience:
Master’s degree in public administration, Education, Health, or Project Management from a recognized university.
Minimum ten years of experience working with public and private sectors, preferably with thematic areas of Early Childhood Development (ECD), Life Skills-Based Education, Adolescent Programing, and Parenting of Children and Adolescents.
Experience of working at the policy level advocacy, curriculum development, quality education material preparations and capacity building work with the public sector at national and provincial level.
Strong coordination skills, particularly engaging provincial and district government stakeholders.
Work with UN agencies on parenting role, child and adolescents’ holistic development will be considered as an advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and diplomatically with internal and external partners.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work flexibly and effectively under challenging conditions, including high-pressure or field environments.
Familiarity with the AKDN work would be considered as an advantage.
